The new EcoCity gas bus is undoubtedly a quiet MAN, and there is determination for it to succeed. Will it lead a new dash for gas? Stephen Morris takes it for a test drive.
Premium class coach operator, City Circle, with bases in London and Edinburgh, has taken delivery of a further five 12-metre, two-axle NEOPLAN Tourliners to bolster its tourism and corporate charter operations. City Circle now operates 11 Tourliners.
Private and Contract Hire specialists, E&M Horsburgh, has taken delivery of two
new MAN / MCV Evolution combinations. The 14.220s are the first complete MAN chassis
and driveline units for the Livingston-based bus company, although existing MAN-powered
Optare Solos have “performed exceptionally well”, the company says.
Silverdale of Nottingham has, for the first time, added MAN Tourliner to its 45-strong
fleet. Five new coaches have been delivered comprising of three 49-seat P21 two-axle
chassis and two 61-seat P22 three-axle chassis.
Impact of London, part of the Impact Group plc, in West Ealing, has taken delivery
of three MAN R33 360 Noge Catalan ‘Tourings’. The delivery underlines MAN’s commitment
to Noge customers following the company’s entry into administration last month.
Rotherham coach operator, Expressway Coaches has added a second new MAN / Plaxton
Panther coach combination to its fleet. The company has now operated four MAN coach
chassis.
Sea View Coaches has added four new NEOPLAN Tourliners to its fleet, which was already
mostly MAN based.
Corporate Hire and Luxury Tour operator, Maynes of Buckie, has just taken delivery
of six new MAN and NEOPLAN touring coaches, confirming the company’s switch to the
Munich marque from a previous majority of Volvo chassis.
Local bus operator, Cotswold Green in Gloucestershire, has put into service its
first new MAN / Plaxton Centro combination. A low floor, and MAN's EGR ‘Add
Nothing’ engine aboard the ‘A76’ 12.240 chassis, were key in the
company's decision to take MAN.
Regal Busways Ltd. in Chelmsford has added two MAN Meridian single-deck buses to
its 30-strong fleet. The 44-seat Meridian body, from Wrightbus, is coupled with
MAN's 12m ‘A22’ chassis and powered by a six-cylinder, 270bhp MAN
‘Add Nothing’ engine.
Anthony's Travel in Runcorn has taken delivery of a new NEOPLAN Tourliner –
the third NEOPLAN model in its current fleet of 16 coaches, min-coaches and MPVs.
The latest addition was presented to company partner Anne Bamber as a 60th birthday
present, although son and company partner, Richard, said gift wrapping the new 12
metre luxury tourer was ‘too much of a struggle!’
UK and international tour operator, Mainline Coaches in South Wales, says ‘cracking
value’ was behind its decision to purchase its first new MAN R33 Plaxton Panther.
The new luxury tourer joins recently-acquired MAN Noge and MAN Marcopolo combinations
in a total fleet of 26 coaches operating from Mainline's Gilfach Goch depot
near Bridgend.

Whitelaw's Coaches of Stonehouse, the first bus operator in the UK to take the
new MAN Wrightbus Meridian low-floor city bus, has added a further five vehicles
to take its Meridian fleet to six. The Meridian fleet runs on local bus service
operations throughout Lanarkshire.

MAN Truck & Bus UK Ltd. has appointed PSV Glass as its sole aftermarket supplier
of glazing products for its MAN, NEOPLAN and Noge buses and coaches. The five-year
agreement is to be officially approved on MAN's show stand at EuroBus Expo on
Wednesday 5th November at 10.45am.
