HORSBURGH EVOLVES WITH MAN
Private and Contract Hire specialists, E&M Horsburgh, has taken delivery of two
new MAN / MCV Evolution combinations. The 14.220s are the first complete MAN chassis
and driveline units for the Livingston-based bus company, although existing MAN-powered
Optare Solos have “performed exceptionally well”, the company says.
The 43-seat 11.3 metre MCV Evolution body is also available on MAN’s smaller 12.220
chassis.
Horsburgh’s latest additions are in operation on the company’s new service at the
newly-built Falkirk & District Royal Infirmary.
Following the success of the MAN engines in Horsburgh’s Optare Solos, the company
was keen to put a complete MAN chassis to the test. Company Director, Eric Horsburgh,
was delighted initially with the extremely attractive acquisition package, and his
opinion of the MAN product has since grown.
“Even after an intensive 50,000kms, the new MANs have not missed a beat,” he said,
“and we’ve had no issues with them. It’s still early days, but, I have to say, I
like what I see.
He continued, “Perhaps the greatest appeal is the EGR engine. We do not need AdBlue,
and that’s a real bonus. We have SCR-powered vehicles in our fleet and I can tell
you that they do not offer any advantage in productivity. AdBlue is just another
operating cost, and it’s a hassle, too.
Since 1986, E&M Horsburgh has provided transport services to its local community.
Today, its 90-strong fleet covers a wide range of sectors including private hire,
contract hire, wheelchair access, stage carriage, Schools services, special needs
transport and light commercial fleet maintenance.
